The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Emergency Management Specialist in the Department of Emergency Management. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under limited supervision, performs professional level work with the development and administration of emergency management planning for the City’s Emergency Preparedness program; supports the maintenance and use of the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and alternate EOC and provides resource management for the Department’s resources; responds to major incidents as needed; and performs related duties as assigned. 
The selected candidate will also provide maintenance of emerging technologies to support Department objectives!

Salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Organizational Studies or closely related field 
  • Two (2) years of work experience involving emergency management planning, exercising, training development or response to emergencies
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Possession of an Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) and/or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification from the International Association of Emergency Managers at the time of hire is desired. AEM must be obtained within two (2) years of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
  • Desirable: Completion of FEMA Professional Development series, ICS 300 and 400, as well as any NIMS ICS All-Hazards Position Specific training
